WELLS — Vermont State Police arrested a local man Thursday following an assault investigation on Route 31.
Jacob Merrow, 49, of Wells, was charged with simple assault after police responded to a report at 4:58 p.m.
The victim was identified as Gregory Bacher, 69, also of Wells.
Investigators determined Merrow had allegedly assaulted Bacher, leading to the criminal charge.
Merrow was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Rutland Criminal Division on June 30 at 10 a.m.
No bail was set, and Merrow was not lodged at a correctional facility.
