RUTLAND — A collision between a Rutland Town police cruiser and a passenger vehicle occurred at the intersection of U.S. Route 7 and Cold River Road at approximately 11:53 a.m. on May 16.
Vermont State Police troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to the two-vehicle crash.
Officer Jared Dumas, 30, of Rutland Town, was driving a 2019 Dodge RAM police cruiser westbound on Cold River Road with emergency lights and siren activated when the crash occurred.
Dumas was attempting to turn south onto Route 7 while responding to a call when his vehicle collided with a 2017 Nissan Versa driven by Barbara Center, 86, of Clarendon.
According to investigators, Dumas proceeded through a red light at a low rate of speed with emergency equipment activated.
Center, who was traveling northbound on Route 7 with a green light, reportedly did not see the emergency lights until the collision occurred.
The police cruiser sustained minor damage to the left fender area, while Center’s Nissan received moderate damage to the front bumper and hood.
Center, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.
Dumas was wearing a seat belt and reported no injuries.
The Vermont State Police were assisted at the scene by the Rutland Town Police Department and Regional Ambulance Service.
No civil violations were issued in connection with the incident.
