RUMFORD — The body of a missing Rumford man was discovered late Thursday morning in a wooded area near Joe’s Pond, approximately 1.5 miles from his home, police said.
Christopher Gilbert, 38, was found by a Maine Warden Service drone during an aerial search, concluding a two-day multi-agency effort.
Authorities reported no apparent signs of foul play, with injuries observed at the scene appearing consistent with suicide.
Gilbert had been reported missing on the evening of May 12, prompting officers and K9 search teams to canvass the area near his Raymond Street residence.
The discovery was made shortly before 12 p.m. when the drone located what appeared to be a body, with coordinates relayed to ground teams who confirmed the finding.
“We extend our sincere condolences to Mr. Gilbert’s family,” said Rumford Police Chief Tony Milligan in a statement.
The Rumford Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gilbert’s death in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Search and recovery operations included personnel from the Rumford Police Department, Maine Warden Service, and Rumford Fire Department, with assistance from the Maine State Police K9 Unit.
