Driver seriously injured in Addison crash

ADDISON — A New Jersey man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning on Vermont Route 17W in Addison.

State police responded to the crash at approximately 7:22 a.m. at the intersection of Route 17W and Cedar Drive.

Antonio Marcos Da Costa, 47, of West Long Branch, New Jersey, was driving a 2013 Ford F-350 southbound at approximately 45 mph when the vehicle left the southbound lane and struck a telephone pole, according to police.

Da Costa, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered suspected serious bodily injuries and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center.

The vehicle was carrying a total of seven occupants, with three requiring transportation to the hospital.

The Ford F-350 was declared a total loss.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Addison Fire Department, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Middlebury Regional EMS and Bristol Rescue Squad.
