Driver crashes into telephone pole in Newbury

NEWBURY — A Bradford man escaped injury after his vehicle struck a telephone pole on Main St South Thursday evening.

Michael Tkac, 29, was traveling north on Main St South near Evergreen Dr when he veered off the roadway and hit a telephone pole around 7:55 p.m., according to Vermont State Police from the Saint Johnsbury Barracks.

Tkac’s 2009 Subaru Forester was totaled in the crash, but he was wearing a seat belt and declined medical treatment at the scene.

The vehicle came to rest on the side of the northbound lane after the collision.

Troopers issued Tkac citations for driving a vehicle not inspected within 15 days of Vermont registration and improper use of driving lanes.

Newbury Fire Department, Green Mountain Power, and JTB towing assisted state police at the scene.

Road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash.
