OSWEGO — The City of Oswego Fire and Police Departments rescued an adult female from the Oswego River Thursday morning after responding to reports of a possible body floating in the water.
First responders were alerted at approximately 7:35 a.m. and quickly deployed to the area near West Seneca Street, utilizing both land-based teams and rescue vessels.
A city drone was also launched to assist with the search operation.
Firefighters and police officers located the woman near the west wall of the Oswego River and moved her to a nearby dock.
Oswego firefighters pulled the unresponsive woman from the water and immediately began life-saving efforts.
Paramedics from the Oswego Fire Department and Menter Ambulance continued advanced life support interventions before transporting the patient to the Oswego Hospital Emergency Department in critical condition.
“This was an outstanding team effort in a very challenging environment,” said Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone.
“The Oswego River is flowing at a high velocity, and water temperatures are still below 50 degrees.”
The Oswego Police Department is investigating how and where the victim entered the water.
