MALTA — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Schenectady man Thursday on charges related to a business theft dating back to 2021.

Edward M. Tomchek, 46, faces charges of grand larceny in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, along with identity theft in the 3rd degree and forgery in the 3rd degree, both class A misdemeanors.

The charges stem from a complaint received by the Sheriff’s Office in August 2021.

Authorities allege Tomchek stole more than $3,000 from a business by passing fraudulent checks against its account.

Tomchek was arraigned before Judge Ellwood A. Sloat Jr. in Malta Town Court.

Following his arraignment, Tomchek was returned to the Schenectady County Jail, where he is currently being held on separate charges pending further proceedings.
