PORTLAND — Portland Police arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to sell a stolen GPS unit from a boat docked at Union Wharf.
Jessie Gerhrmann, who is unhoused, was charged with felony Theft By Receiving Stolen Property and Violation Of Probation following a police sting operation.
The investigation began Tuesday, May 13 at 11:47 a.m. when officers responded to Union Wharf for a report of a GPS unit missing from a vessel.
Police determined the unit had been stolen sometime between May 9-13.
Later that same day, investigators discovered the stolen GPS listed for sale online.
On Wednesday, May 14, Portland Police Detectives arranged to meet the seller at 1091 Congress Street after responding to the online advertisement.
When Gerhrmann arrived with the stolen GPS unit, officers took him into custody without incident.
Gerhrmann’s theft charge was elevated to a felony due to prior offenses, according to police.
He was transported to Cumberland County Jail following his arrest.
