Driver arrested after striking juvenile cyclist in Norwalk

NORWALK — A 30-year-old New York man has been arrested following an April crash that left a juvenile bicyclist seriously injured.

Giovani Holguin of Harrison, N.Y., turned himself in to authorities on May 14 after police completed their investigation into the April 19 accident.

According to the Norwalk Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 7:17 p.m. near 44 Wilson Avenue when Holguin’s westbound vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane, striking one of five juveniles who were riding bicycles.

The injured juvenile was transported to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries following the collision.

Officer Equi of the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit led the investigation, which included analyzing evidence, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.

Holguin faces five counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, along with charges of reckless driving, traveling unreasonably fast and failure to maintain proper lane.

He was held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.
