MONKTON — A Burlington man is wanted by police after allegedly stealing a vehicle and causing a head-on collision on Hardscrabble Road in Monkton.

The crash occurred May 11 at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road and Putty Bed Place.

According to Vermont State Police, Eugene Streeter, 40, of Burlington, was driving a stolen 2023 Audi Q5 when he turned onto Hardscrabble Road northbound from Putty Bed Place at high speed.

Streeter’s vehicle collided head-on with a southbound 2024 Toyota RAV4 driven by Taylor Cole, 24, of Monkton.

Cole, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered suspected moderate injuries and was transported to Porter Medical Center.

The Audi, which had been reported stolen from 83-year-old Beverly Wool of Burlington the previous day, was totaled in the crash.

Witnesses reported that Streeter and a passenger fled the scene before troopers arrived, apparently picked up by someone driving an older-model white Chevy pickup truck.

A K-9 search for the suspects was unsuccessful.

Streeter faces multiple felony charges including leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury resulting, grossly negligent operation, and aggravated operation without owner’s consent.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Streeter, who remains at large.

The investigation into the identities of other occupants in the stolen vehicle continues.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Haven Barracks at 802-388-4919 or leave an anonymous tip.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Middlebury Police Department, Bristol Rescue Squad and Monkton Fire Department.
