ALBANY — A 13-year-old student was arrested Wednesday morning following threats of violence at Myers Middle School.
On Tuesday at around 8:00 p.m., officers responded to Myers Middle School in connection with a threat received via a messaging platform.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the messages indicated bombs would be placed throughout the school and also threatened a school shooting.
Albany Police Officers, along with K-9 units, conducted a sweep of the school building Tuesday evening and again Wednesday morning prior to the start of the school day.
After thorough sweeps, the building was deemed safe for students and staff to enter.
Further investigation by the Albany Police Department’s Children and Family Service Unit resulted in the student being identified and taken into custody.
Investigators determined that the 13-year-old student sent the threats through Snapchat messaging.
The student, whose name will not be released due to her age, has been charged with one count of Making a Terroristic Threat and one count of Aggravated Harassment 2nd.
She is scheduled to appear at Albany County Probation on a later date.
The investigation remains active and ongoing in reference to the threats made at both KIPP Albany Community Charter School and Hackett Middle School.
