2 arrested in East Fishkill drug bust on Taconic Parkway

EAST FISHKILL — Two New York City men were arrested after state police discovered multiple narcotics during a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway, authorities said Thursday.

Members of the New York State Police Troop K Community Stabilization Unit conducted the stop on May 14 when they observed a 2021 Jeep traveling northbound with vehicle and traffic law violations.

The vehicle’s occupants were identified as Julio C. Tejada, 41, and Michael Barnes, 45, both of New York, NY.

With assistance from K-9 Vinn, troopers received a positive alert for illegal narcotics, which led to a probable cause search of the vehicle.

The search yielded 47 grams of crack cocaine, 14.6 grams of powdered cocaine, approximately 180 glassine envelopes containing fentanyl, and 2.6 grams of fentanyl in pill form.

Both men were charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4th Degree, a Class C felony; two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree, a Class B felony; three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree with Intent to Sell, a Class B felony; and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.

Tejada and Barnes were arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to Dutchess County Jail without bail.
