Following the investigation, Witty was charged with burglary in the second degree, a class C felony; assault in the second degree, a class D felony; and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a class A misdemeanor.

Witty remains in custody at the Cortland Police Department awaiting arraignment.

The male resident involved in the incident has not been charged, police said.
