NEW WINDSOR — A man was airlifted to a hospital after being shot in the face while turkey hunting in Stewart State Forest on May 13.
The male victim contacted Orange County 911 at approximately 11 a.m. to report he had been shot with birdshot from a shotgun by an unknown person while hunting in the New Windsor forest.
The victim was transported by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
New York State Police are leading the investigation and have taken a suspect into custody.
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including New York State Forest Rangers, Town of New Windsor Police Department, Town of Blooming Grove Police Department, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and several local police departments.
New Windsor EMS and Orange County 911 also provided assistance.
