According to police, troopers responded to County Route 12 at the Riverside Hotel in Rossie at approximately 10:03 p.m. following reports of a fight in progress.
The investigation revealed that Weir and Cole were involved in an altercation when a passerby intervened and attempted to separate them.
After the victim helped get Weir and Cole into their vehicle, Weir allegedly threw an object at the victim’s vehicle as they drove away, causing damage.
The victim then followed Weir and Cole to the Clearview Motel on U.S. Highway 11 in Gouverneur to hold them accountable for the damages.
At the motel, Weir allegedly approached the victim while brandishing a machete in a threatening manner.
The victim picked up a metal pole from the ground for protection and struck Weir in the head, causing him to back away.
During this confrontation, Cole reportedly drove erratically around the victim, who then threw the pole through the passenger window of Cole’s vehicle, striking Cole and causing a minor injury.
Troopers arrived at the scene, separated all parties, and transported Weir and Cole to SP Gouverneur for processing.
Cole was released with an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Gouverneur Court in June.
Weir was arraigned in the Town of Gouverneur Court and released under probation supervision, with an additional appearance ticket to return to the Town of Rossie Court in June for the damage to the victim’s vehicle.
