BENTON — A Rochester man faces multiple charges after leading Yates County sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase that began on Pre-Emption Road early Monday.
Leonard L. Henry, 50, was arrested around 2:35 a.m. after deputies successfully deployed spike strips to end the pursuit.
The incident began when the Yates County Sheriff’s Office received information about a vehicle traveling over 100 mph southbound on Pre-Emption Road entering Yates County at approximately 2:27 a.m.
Deputies, with assistance from the Penn Yan Police Department, located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
Henry allegedly refused to pull over and continued at high speeds through the Village of Penn Yan, running multiple stop signs.
After deputies deployed spike strips that deflated the vehicle’s tires, the pursuit ended shortly thereafter.
Henry was taken into custody without further incident by deputies and Penn Yan police officers.
He was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the third degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, four counts of reckless driving, two counts of speeding, failure to keep right, two counts of failing to stop at a stop sign, and passing a red signal.
Henry was issued appearance tickets and later turned over to the Geneva Police Department for pending charges from that agency.
