BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a 19-year-old Quincy man on multiple firearm charges following a traffic stop in Mattapan on Saturday, May 10.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officers on directed patrol in Mattapan Square observed a double-parked vehicle with excessive window tint on Blue Hill Avenue.

After the vehicle pulled into traffic, officers followed and witnessed the driver fail to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and swerve around another vehicle before abruptly stopping near 620 River Street.

Officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, identified as Tyre Ely, who was hesitant to provide registration documents.

When Ely was asked to exit the vehicle, a firearm fell to the ground from the rear of his body, police said.

Officers immediately placed Ely in handcuffs and recovered the weapon, which was later identified as a Taurus S/W containing fifteen rounds in the magazine with none in the chamber.

Ely was arrested and faces charges including possession of a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm without a license, and carrying a loaded firearm without a license.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
