EAST MONTPELIER — A local man is facing charges of driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident following a single-vehicle crash on Route 2 Sunday afternoon.
Troopers from the Berlin Barracks responded to the reported crash at approximately 1:50 p.m. on May 11.
Investigators determined that a 2009 Mazda 3 driven by Daniel Johnson, 39, of East Montpelier, was traveling north when it exited the east side of the roadway.
The vehicle struck a guardrail before continuing eastward, sustaining moderate front and rear damage.
When troopers arrived at the scene, the operator was not present and had not notified law enforcement about the crash.
Officers later located Johnson at his residence where they observed signs of impairment.
After administering Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, troopers placed Johnson under arrest on suspicion of DUI.
Johnson was transported to the Berlin Police Department for processing and later released with a citation.
He is scheduled to appear in Washington County Criminal Court at 8:30 a.m. on June 19 to answer to charges of DUI (first offense) and leaving the scene of an accident.
