RICHMOND — Two people sustained minor injuries in a two-car crash on Interstate 89 southbound Saturday evening that temporarily shut down a section of the highway.

Vermont State Police responded to reports of a crash at Mile Marker 78.0 in Richmond at approximately 7:35 p.m. on May 10.

According to preliminary investigation, Jazmyn Burke, 24, of Waterbury, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when her 2015 Volkswagen Jetta rear-ended a 2006 Subaru Legacy also traveling southbound.

Burke’s vehicle spun around and came to rest in the middle of I-89 southbound, blocking both lanes of travel.

The Subaru, driven by a juvenile from Barre City, went into the median.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center, Burke by EMS and the juvenile by parents.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.

One section of I-89 southbound was shut down for a short period of time following the incident.
