MONKTON — A head-on collision between a stolen Audi and a Toyota RAV4 on Hardscrabble Road left two vehicles totaled and one driver injured Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road and Putty Bed Place.
According to Vermont State Police, a 2024 Toyota RAV4 driven by Taylor Cole, 24, of Monkton, was traveling south on Hardscrabble Road when it was struck by a northbound 2023 Audi Q5.
Investigators determined the Audi had turned onto Hardscrabble Road from Putty Bed Place at high speed before colliding with Cole’s vehicle.
Cole, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained suspected moderate injuries and was transported to Porter Medical Center.
The Audi had been reported stolen from Burlington the previous day, police said.
The two occupants of the stolen vehicle fled the scene before troopers arrived.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspects being picked up by someone driving an older-model white Chevy pickup truck.
A K-9 search for the suspects was unsuccessful.
State Police are continuing to investigate the identities of the Audi’s occupants.
