VERNON — Officers from the Vernon Police Department seized a large quantity of drugs and cash during a traffic stop at the Travelodge motel on May 9.

Police were patrolling the area of 51 Hartford Turnpike around 6:30 p.m. when they noticed a vehicle with dark tinted windows and only one license plate.

After stopping the vehicle as it exited the property, officers observed a digital scale in the center console, commonly used in drug transactions.

The driver, identified as Marcus Richards, 41, of Hartford, initially resisted exiting the vehicle and pushed an officer who was attempting to open the door.

Officers were able to reason with Richards, who eventually exited the vehicle peacefully.

K9 Franco was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A subsequent search revealed 132 wax folds containing fentanyl, 8.4 grams of fentanyl in a plastic bag, 79.7 grams of powder cocaine, 9.3 grams of crack cocaine, and $4,675 in U.S. currency.

Richards was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, operation of a drug factory, interfering with an officer, and failure to display license plates.
