Package thieves arrested with stolen college diploma in South Boston

BOSTON — Two South Boston residents were arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing packages, including a college diploma, from a building doorway.

Officers from District C-6 responded to 26 Jenkins Street at about 3:52 p.m. following a report of a larceny in progress.

Police were informed that a male and female suspect had stolen a package from a building doorway and fled toward Dorchester Street.

During a search of the area, officers located two individuals matching the description riding a scooter toward 5 Patterson Way.

The suspects were observed standing by the scooter surrounded by multiple boxes of merchandise.

Philip Renaud, 57, and Tayla Lynch, 36, both of South Boston, were placed in handcuffs and transported for booking.

Officers discovered that one of the stolen packages contained a college diploma, which they were able to return to its rightful owner.

Both suspects face charges of larceny from a building and receiving stolen property under $1,200.

They are expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
