NORTH ADAMS — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two Springfield men on multiple drug trafficking and weapons charges after police seized heroin, cocaine and an illegal firearm.

On May 6, North Adams police detectives were conducting surveillance at 115 Bradley Street as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation when they initiated a traffic stop.

The driver, Duane Carr, was initially arrested for operating without a license, according to a police statement.

During the stop, Officer Cogswell deployed K9 Rocky, who alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

A passenger, Jossue Burgos, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.

Police found heroin and cocaine on Burgos, while a search of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine and a digital scale.

Investigators later executed search warrants at two rooms at the Berkshire Inn in Pittsfield where the suspects were staying.

The searches yielded approximately 830 bags of heroin, 25 grams of cocaine/crack cocaine, distribution materials, and a Glock 21 .45 caliber firearm with a high-capacity magazine containing eight rounds of ammunition.

Both men face multiple charges including trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

Additional charges include improper storage of a firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and being armed career felons with prior violent or drug crime convictions.
