Driver strikes pedestrians in Putney, faces DUI charges

PUTNEY — A New Hampshire man faces multiple charges after allegedly driving under the influence of drugs and striking two pedestrians on a sidewalk Thursday morning.

Jason A. Ball, 23, of Alstead, was arrested after his vehicle left the roadway on Main Street at approximately 11:08 a.m., according to Vermont State Police.

One pedestrian, a 77-year-old Putney resident, sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

The second pedestrian received minor injuries in the incident.

Ball was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and operating a vehicle in a grossly negligent manner.

Following processing at the Westminster Barracks, Ball was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility with bail set at $25,000.

He is scheduled to appear in Windham County Superior Court at 12:30 p.m. Friday to face charges of DUI Drug – Serious Bodily Injury or Death Resulting and Gross Negligent Operation.

The identity of the critically injured pedestrian is being withheld pending family notification.
