Colchester man arrested for murder after police find body in home

COLCHESTER — A 27-year-old Colchester man is facing a first-degree murder charge after police found a deceased person in a residence off Roosevelt Highway.

Elijah Compagna was arrested at his home where police say the crime was committed.

Initial investigation shows that Compagna attacked the female victim with an edged weapon, according to the Colchester Police Department.

Colchester officers responded to the residence at approximately 5:20 p.m. Thursday for a report of a disturbance.

Upon their arrival at approximately 5:21 p.m., they located a deceased person in the residence.

Compagna was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Vermont Criminal Superior Court in Burlington.

The victim’s remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine identification as well as cause and manner of death.

The Vermont State Police Crime Scene Search Team was called to assist with the investigation.

Colchester Rescue and the Chittenden County States Attorney’s Office also assisted Colchester Police personnel.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of family.
