TROY, NY — A 40-year-old Troy man faces multiple charges after police arrested him for drunk driving and possession of an illegal handgun following a vehicle chase that ended in a crash.
On Wednesday, April 30, at approximately 10 p.m., Troy Police 3rd platoon patrol units observed a vehicle committing multiple traffic violations.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at River Street and Ingalls Avenue, but the driver fled.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle struck a telephone pole at Ingalls Avenue and 6th Avenue.
With assistance from Troy Police Detectives and Special Operations Section, officers apprehended the driver, identified as Karyim T. Brown.
An illegal handgun was discovered inside the vehicle.
Brown was treated by the Troy Fire Department for minor injuries and held overnight at the Troy Police Department.
He was arraigned the following morning at Troy City Court and transferred to Rensselaer County Jail.
Brown faces charges including Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Driving While Intoxicated, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, Reckless Driving, and multiple other vehicle and traffic violations.
