AUBURN — A Sturbridge man was arrested following an unarmed robbery at Savers Bank in Auburn, police said Thursday.
On Wednesday, April 30, at 12:36 p.m., the Auburn Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from Savers Bank at 38 Auburn Street reporting a robbery had just occurred.
Officers immediately responded to the bank and surrounding area as a suspect description was distributed.
During the investigation, authorities determined the suspect had passed a threatening note and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
While Auburn Police were investigating the robbery, Worcester Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a separate crime committed in their city.
During the motor vehicle stop, a short foot pursuit ensued in which one of the suspects was observed dropping cash.
Auburn Communications Dispatchers and supervisors monitoring the pursuit in Worcester were able to communicate a description of the Auburn robbery suspect to Worcester Police.
John Wozniak, 49, of Sturbridge was arrested by Worcester Police on charges stemming from crimes committed in that city.
Auburn Police Detectives worked closely with Worcester Police to ensure evidence was properly preserved and developed probable cause for crimes committed in Auburn.
Wozniak was arraigned in Worcester District Court on charges of unarmed robbery and threat to commit a crime.
Following a dangerousness hearing, Wozniak was held in custody.
He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
