BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a 39-year-old East Boston man Wednesday following a breaking and entering incident in Roxbury’s Nubian Square.
At about 2:58 p.m., officers on a walking beat responded to a trespasser call at 144 Dudley Street.
Building security informed officers that an apartment should have been vacant, but movement could be heard inside.
Security also noted that the lock on the apartment door had been changed from what management had previously installed.
When officers knocked on the door, the suspect, identified as Larmount Jones, exited but ignored officers’ commands to stop.
A foot pursuit followed, with officers apprehending Jones in the area of 2360 Washington Street after a struggle that required assistance from additional responding units.
Officers searching the suspect’s flight path recovered a discarded backpack in the second-floor hallway of the apartment building.
Inside the backpack, police found a screwdriver and wire cutters believed to have been used to gain entry to the locked apartment.
Jones faces charges of breaking and entering for misdemeanor, possession of burglarious instruments, trespass, and assault and battery on a police officer.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
