WHITNEYVILLE — Three defendants have been sentenced for their roles in the 2017 homicide of Wayne Foss, whose body was discovered in his burned Whitneyville home, Maine State Police announced.
Foss, 48, was found dead on October 28, 2017, after his residence had been set on fire.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined Foss died from sharp force injury and inhalation of combustible materials, ruling the death a homicide.
After years of investigation by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and the Office of State Fire Marshal, a Washington County Grand Jury indicted three individuals in October 2023.
Justin Matthews, 35, of Robbinston, was arrested in Saco, while Basilio Liranzo, 29, of Bronx, New York, was already incarcerated at the Maine State Prison on unrelated charges.
Leanza Boney, 27, also of Bronx, New York, was apprehended in New York City by Maine State Police Detectives and members of a U.S. Marshal’s Task Force.
All three defendants subsequently pleaded guilty to charges related to Foss’s death.
Matthews, the final defendant to be sentenced, received 16 years with all but 10 years suspended and 4 years’ probation for Felony Murder on May 8.
Liranzo was sentenced to 16 years for Felony Murder and Arson.
Boney received 16 years with all but 5 years suspended and 4 years’ probation for Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
