Southbridge police arrest 3 after finding guns, drugs during traffic stop

SOUTHBRIDGE — Detectives arrested three individuals Friday after observing a firearms exchange that led to the discovery of multiple weapons and drugs during a traffic stop.

According to the Southbridge Police Department, detectives were in the Brochu Street area around 1 p.m. when they spotted Rodrick Campbell, 23, who was wanted on an active warrant for unlicensed firearm possession.

Detectives observed Campbell place a firearm into a bag held by Jalexus Morales, 25, before both entered a vehicle containing two other occupants.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on North Street where they recovered a loaded firearm, magazine, and numerous rounds of ammunition.

During further investigation, police discovered a second loaded firearm, another magazine with ammunition, and a stun gun.

Three occupants were arrested at the scene and transported to police headquarters for processing.

During booking, officers found suspected crack cocaine and fentanyl packaged for distribution, along with cash believed to be drug sale proceeds.

Campbell, of 36 Main Street, was charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of large capacity feeding devices, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm without a license, unlawful ammunition possession, possession of fentanyl and crack cocaine, and the existing warrant.

Morales, of 1235 Eastford Road, faces charges of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, commission of a felony while armed, unlicensed firearm possession, unlawful ammunition possession, and carrying a loaded firearm.

Nayrelis Fernandez, 19, of 70 Main Street, was charged with possession of a stun gun without a license.

All three were held at police headquarters pending bail or arraignment in Dudley District Court on Monday, April 28.

Bail was set at $15,000 for Campbell, $10,000 for Morales, and $500 for Fernandez.
