PORTSMOUTH — A Massachusetts man was arrested on firearms charges after police found him intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon at a historic Portsmouth property.
Nelson Rivera, of Chelsea, Massachusetts, was taken into custody on May 4 at the Glen Manor House property, police said.
At approximately 3 a.m., a patrol officer checking the grounds discovered a suspicious unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot containing open alcoholic beverages, shotgun shells and handgun ammunition.
Officers located four individuals fishing on the Glen Manor House dock alongside numerous alcoholic beverages.
Rivera identified himself as the owner of the vehicle and admitted to officers that he had a concealed firearm in his waistband.
Police recovered a nine-millimeter handgun tucked into his pants along with a loaded ten-round magazine.
Rivera, who does not possess a concealed carry permit, was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol while intoxicated and carrying a pistol without a license or permit.
He was arraigned by a Justice of Peace and bail was set at $5,000 with surety.
As a condition of his release, Rivera was issued a No Trespass Order for the Glen Manor House.
The other individuals at the scene were dispersed without incident.
Rivera is scheduled for re-arraignment on Thursday, May 8, at the 2nd Division District Court in Newport.
