Camillus man arrested in Homer on drug charges after traffic stop

HOMER — A Camillus man faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police discovered crack cocaine and fentanyl during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Amar Davell Shabazz, 43, was arrested at approximately 12:11 a.m. on May 6 after officers observed his vehicle failing to stop at a stop sign at Clinton Street and North Main Street, and speeding on South Main Street.

Officers determined Shabazz was operating the vehicle while impaired by cannabis, according to the Homer Police Department.

During the traffic stop on Albany Street, police discovered controlled substances, drug paraphernalia and a partially burnt cannabis cigarette in the vehicle.

Shabazz was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony; two counts of criminal using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, class A misdemeanors; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor; and driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.

He also faces traffic infractions including failure to stop at a stop sign, speed in zone and consumption of cannabis in a motor vehicle.

Shabazz was processed at the Homer Police Department and transported to the Cortland County Jail to await arraignment in Centralized Arraignment Part.

The Homer Police Department was assisted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.
