HAVERHILL — Reports of an active shooter in the area of Woodsville Elementary School have been determined to be inaccurate, police said Tuesday.
No shooting occurred.
Out of an abundance of caution, some area schools were temporarily placed in lockdown.
At approximately 10 a.m., the Haverhill Police Department was made aware of a threat directed at a Haverhill police officer, reportedly made by a juvenile residing in the area.
The threat was believed to potentially involve the vicinity of Woodsville Elementary School.
In response, schools in the area were immediately placed on lockdown.
Haverhill Police, in coordination with the New Hampshire State Police, Grafton County Sheriff’s Department, and other local agencies, responded to ensure the safety and security of all school campuses.
A suspect was identified and detained based on information coordinated through Grafton County Dispatch and assisting law enforcement agencies.
After a thorough safety assessment, and with no injuries reported, the Superintendent of SAU 23 was advised that the lockdown could be lifted.
At this time, there is no ongoing threat to public safety, according to authorities.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
