MOREAU — A Rensselaer man was arrested on assault and weapons charges following an alleged road rage incident that sent one person to the hospital.

Matthew Blanding, 39, was taken into custody April 30 on a warrant for second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, State Police said.

The charges stem from an April 7 incident that began as a road rage confrontation in South Glens Falls.

According to investigators, Blanding followed the victim from Hudson Street in South Glens Falls to a residence in Moreau at approximately 4:03 p.m.

When the victim exited their vehicle, Blanding allegedly threw a glass object that struck the victim in the head before hitting them multiple times with his hands.

A bystander intervened to stop the assault, and emergency services were called to the scene.

The victim, who police said was unknown to Blanding prior to the incident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The Moreau Town Court issued an arrest warrant for Blanding on April 28 following the police investigation.

Hudson Falls Police Department located and apprehended Blanding on April 30, after which he was transported to State Police barracks in Wilton for processing.

Following his arraignment in Moreau Town Court, Blanding was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without bail.
