MAMARONECK — Village police officers safely resolved a domestic incident involving a knife-wielding man who threatened his family and himself on Sunday.
At approximately 6:07 p.m., officers responded to a local residence after a 26-year-old female caller reported being locked inside the home and unable to leave due to her brother’s violent, threatening behavior.
Upon arrival, officers encountered Jorge Cerna, a 26-year-old Mamaroneck resident, who was armed with a knife and threatening to harm himself and responding officers.
Police engaged in negotiations with Cerna for about 10 minutes, urging him to peacefully surrender.
During the negotiation, Cerna placed the blade to his throat, approached officers with the knife, and was subsequently subdued with a Taser, which temporarily incapacitated him long enough for officers to safely place him into custody.
Cerna was transported to White Plains Hospital for medical treatment and psychological evaluation.
No family members or officers were injured during the incident.
Officers completed a domestic incident report, and Cerna was placed under arrest under mandatory Family Offense provisions.
He was charged with First Degree Menacing and Second Degree Harassment.
Cerna was processed by Village of Mamaroneck officers to be arraigned and issued a Temporary Order of Protection.
