Boston man arrested for drug trafficking after police surveillance operation

BOSTON — A Boston man was arrested on drug trafficking charges after police surveillance operations across multiple neighborhoods led to the discovery of heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine.

At about 12:30 p.m., on Thursday, May 1, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) and District E-18 (Hyde Park) arrested Franklin Mejia Martinez, 26, of Boston.

The Mattapan Drug Control Unit was on patrol in the area of Fairway Street when they observed a known individual using a cellphone and visually scanning the area.

Officers conducted surveillance and observed the individual approach the passenger side window of a motor vehicle.

Drug Control Units followed the vehicle as it made stops in Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain, Dorchester and Quincy, where different individuals briefly entered and exited the vehicle.

After the vehicle returned to Boston and stopped in the area of Millet Street and Wheatland Avenue, officers conducted a traffic stop near Norfolk Street and Woolson Street.

A search of Mejia Martinez revealed ten plastic bags of heroin, fourteen plastic bags of crack cocaine, and five plastic bags of cocaine, weighing 20.5 grams, 14.2 grams, and 5.1 grams respectively.

Officers also recovered $1,039 in U.S. currency.

Mejia Martinez is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of trafficking Class A and trafficking Class B substances.
