Bicyclist critically injured in Rome crash

ROME — A bicyclist suffered serious injuries Monday after colliding with a pickup truck at the intersection of Black River Boulevard and E. Chestnut Street, according to the Rome Police Department.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:09 p.m. when the bicyclist exited the Mohawk Acres parking lot onto E. Chestnut Street.

Police determined the bicyclist failed to yield the right of way to a pickup truck traveling west on E. Chestnut Street.

The bicyclist was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse by Mercy Flight and remains in critical condition.

The pickup truck driver was not injured in the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
