SARATOGA SPRINGS — A Ballston Lake man has pleaded guilty to a violent felony charge in connection with a series of burglaries that occurred across Saratoga County during summer 2024.

Shaun A. Sheriff, 33, admitted to Burglary in the Second Degree before Acting Saratoga County Court Judge Tatiana N. Coffinger, according to District Attorney Karen A. Heggen.

Sheriff confessed that on the evening of June 23, 2024, he broke into a home in the Town of Clifton Park intending to steal property.

The homeowners awoke to find Sheriff standing at the foot of their bed and immediately called the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies quickly arrived and took Sheriff into custody without incident, later discovering several items in his pockets that had been stolen from the home.

Following his arrest, investigators determined Sheriff was also responsible for a series of late-night commercial burglaries in Clifton Park and Saratoga Springs in the days prior.

The businesses targeted included The Bunker, TGIFriday’s, Jimmy’s Egg, and The Hudson Valley Credit Union, with money, alcohol, and merchandise reported stolen.

Sheriff is scheduled for sentencing on May 2, when he faces between eight and twelve years in state prison, followed by two-and-a-half years of post-release supervision.

The court will also issue full stay-away orders of protection for the victims and order Sheriff to pay full restitution.
