WORCESTER — Members of the Worcester Police Vice Squad executed two search warrants on May 5, recovering approximately 425 grams of fentanyl.

The operation targeted 36-year-old Elvin Castillo, who was named in warrants for a Richland Street apartment and a gold Toyota Avalon.

Vice detectives and members of the DEA HIDTA task force established surveillance of the address and the vehicle, which was parked outside.

At approximately 9 a.m., detectives observed Castillo exit his apartment and drive away in the Avalon.

Officers witnessed Castillo pull over on Whipple Street and engage in what appeared to be a drug transaction with an individual who exited a residence.

Detectives then approached Castillo’s vehicle and detained him.

Law enforcement returned to 76 Richland Street to execute the second warrant, conducting a thorough search of the apartment.

The search yielded approximately 425 grams of fentanyl in numerous baggies, digital scales, packaging materials, cutting agents, and $1,620 in cash.

Castillo was transported to the police station for booking and is being charged with trafficking a Class A substance (fentanyl) over 200 grams.
