1 min read

OSWEGO — Members of the Oswego Police Department’s Neighborhood Engagement Team and Patrol Division seized multiple drugs during a traffic stop last week, officials said Monday.

Officers recovered 50 glassine envelopes containing substances that tested positive for fentanyl during the stop.

The seizure also included crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, small plastic packaging materials, a digital scale, multiple empty glassine envelopes and $623 in currency.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be fatal in doses as small as 2 milligrams, according to police.

The drug continues to be a leading cause of overdose deaths nationwide, with a significant amount of drugs seized in Oswego testing positive for fentanyl.

Police officials described the presence of fentanyl in the community as “a serious threat to public health and safety.”

The department called the seizure an example of their proactive work to protect Oswego from illegal drug trafficking.

Authorities encourage residents to report suspicious behavior or drug activity, noting that such reports could save lives.
