FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield Police officer observed a large gathering of individuals and vehicles in the Stop & Shop parking lot at 760 Villa Avenue around 10:55 p.m. Friday, May 2.
The officer began coordinating a law enforcement response while the department simultaneously managed several significant emergency calls.
Due to the urgency of other incidents, an immediate full-scale response to the parking lot was delayed as the officer monitored the situation.
Once other emergency calls were stabilized, several officers entered the parking lot as a unit, causing the crowd and vehicles to disperse rapidly.
The Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center received a report of a possible fire at the scene, but officers later confirmed no active fire existed and determined fire department response was unnecessary.
One officer attempted to stop an offending vehicle that fled at high speed, but could not pursue due to Connecticut’s statewide vehicle pursuit policy.
Fairfield Police are actively investigating and will pursue criminal charges through Connecticut Superior Court if subjects are identified and probable cause established.
The department is asking the public to submit any video footage or information related to the incident through the Fairfield PD mobile app or by texting the keyword FPDCT plus the tip to 847411.
