BELLMORE — A Centereach man faces assault charges after allegedly participating in a street race that ended in a collision in Bellmore, Nassau County police said Saturday.

Ghavin McArthur, 21, was charged with two counts of third-degree assault and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations following the Friday night crash.

According to police, a Nassau County Highway Patrol officer observed McArthur driving a 2020 BMW westbound on Sunrise Highway at 10:30 p.m., changing lanes without signaling and traveling at high speed while racing two other vehicles.

McArthur allegedly ran a red light and struck a 2015 Kia that was traveling north on Newbridge Road.

Police took McArthur into custody without incident following an investigation.

A 17-year-old male driver of one of the other vehicles and his 18-year-old passenger were transported by Nassau County Ambulance to a local hospital where they were treated for pain complaints.

McArthur was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday, May 19.
