BOSTON — A 29-year-old Mattapan man faces multiple firearm charges after a foot chase Thursday evening in which police recovered a loaded handgun.

Officers from District B-3 arrested Naquan Mahone around 5:47 p.m. on May 1 after observing suspicious behavior near 1631 Blue Hill Avenue.

Police were on patrol when they noticed a group loitering outside the address, with one individual entering and quickly exiting the establishment without any items.

The suspect began walking across the street without regard for traffic after noticing police presence.

When officers approached the individual near 430 River Street, he immediately fled on foot while holding his waistband with both hands.

During the pursuit, officers observed the suspect holding a firearm in his right hand and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon.

After a brief struggle, officers safely disarmed Mahone and took him into custody.

A search of the suspect yielded unknown pills in a small plastic bag, while the recovered firearm was identified as a Sig Sauer P365 with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

Mahone faces charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition and a large capacity firearm, possession of Class B drugs, resisting arrest, and firearm violation with one prior violent/drug crime.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
