WALDEN — A two-vehicle collision on VT Route 15 sent one pickup truck into a marsh after its driver crossed the centerline during rainy conditions Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred near 3762 VT Route 15 at approximately 5:57 p.m. when Malik Newman-Shadley, 20, of East Hardwick failed to negotiate a turn while traveling eastbound, according to Vermont State Police.

Newman-Shadley’s 2023 Ford F-150 crossed into the oncoming lane, forcing Brian Carpenter, 50, of Wheelock to take evasive action.

Carpenter, who was driving a 2024 Ram 2500 pickup, attempted to avoid the collision by making a right turn onto Noyestar Road.

Despite Carpenter’s efforts, the Ford’s driver side bumper struck the Ram’s driver side rear bumper.

The impact sent Newman-Shadley’s vehicle into an uncontrolled slide that ended with the truck coming to rest in a marsh adjacent to the northbound lane.

Carpenter was able to complete his turn onto Noyestar Road and park safely at the intersection.

Both vehicles sustained damage, with the Ford suffering front bumper and driver side headlight damage while the Ram had damage to its driver side tail light assembly and rear bumper.

Neither driver reported injuries, and both declined medical treatment at the scene.

State Police cited Newman-Shadley for failure to register a vehicle and improper lane usage.

Walden Fire Department, Calex Ambulance Service, Roland’s Towing, and Caledonia Wrecker Service assisted troopers at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed from the location.
