Providence troopers make multiple arrests over weekend

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island State Police arrested five individuals on various charges during a series of incidents over the weekend, according to officials at Lincoln Woods Barracks.

On Friday at 10 a.m., troopers arrested Michael Gustafson, 50, of Johnston, Rhode Island, following a motor vehicle stop on Magnan Road in Providence.

Gustafson was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for allegedly having Ecstasy and Adderall.

He was processed at Lincoln Woods Barracks and arraigned as a bail violator at the Sixth Division District Court.

Later that day at 3:30 p.m., Patrick Albarracin, 34, of Cranston, Rhode Island, turned himself in at the barracks and was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in damage to an attending vehicle.

Albarracin was processed, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace, and released.

Early Saturday at 1:23 a.m., troopers stopped Ruby Gomes, 25, of East Freetown, Massachusetts, on Eddy Street in Providence.

Gomes was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

After processing, she was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace and released to a responsible adult.

At 2:06 a.m. Saturday, Luis Garcia, 29, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was arrested during a traffic stop on Eddy Street in Providence on a Sixth Division District Court bench warrant for failure to appear on a domestic violence simple assault charge.

Garcia was processed and transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions Men’s Intake Center.

Twenty minutes later at 2:26 a.m., troopers arrested Elhadj Niang, 38, of Providence, Rhode Island, after investigating an accident involving a State Police cruiser on Route 95 North in Providence.

Niang faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for evaluation before being processed at Lincoln Woods Barracks and held overnight pending arraignment as a probation violator.
