Man suffers significant injuries in I-89 crash in Royalton

ROYALTON — A Roxbury man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 Friday night.

Matthew Cowles, 30, was traveling northbound toward Bethel when his 2016 Honda HR-V left the roadway and crashed into the median near mile marker 19.4 at approximately 8:25 p.m.

Cowles, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered significant injuries in the crash.

Emergency responders transported him to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by South Royalton Fire & EMS and Sharon Fire Department.

The Honda HR-V was totaled in the crash.

Weather conditions were foggy at the time, though the road surface was clear.
