Groton police assist in arrest of man accused of threatening officials

GROTON — Members of the Town of Groton Police Department joined federal and local law enforcement agencies in a joint operation Friday to arrest a man accused of threatening and harassing public officials and private individuals.

Jeremy Colonghi, 47, was taken into custody at approximately 5:30 a.m. at his residence at 193 Thames Street in the City of Groton.

The operation involved the Town of Groton Police Department’s Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, Groton City Police, and Waterbury Police.

Colonghi was arrested on warrants held by Waterbury Police in connection with an investigation by the Town of Groton Police Department.

Waterbury Police transported Colonghi to their headquarters for processing.

He will be arraigned at G.A. 4 in Waterbury at a date to be determined.

The Town of Groton Police Department said it will serve its own arrest warrant for Colonghi at a later date.

Authorities emphasized that all charges against Colonghi are allegations and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
