SPRINGFIELD — Three suspects were arrested and two illegal firearms were seized after police executed a search warrant at an apartment on Salem Street Thursday night.

Members of the Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit West conducted the raid at approximately 9:15 p.m. on the 0-100 block of Salem Street.

The operation followed a months-long investigation into illegal activity at the apartment, where detectives received information about crack-cocaine sales and the presence of firearms.

Darin Smith, 40, and a 17-year-old male were detained inside the apartment, while a 16-year-old male suspected of jumping out of a window was apprehended on Maple Street.

During the search, detectives recovered two illegal firearms, one of which was loaded, along with more than 9 grams of crack-cocaine from the 17-year-old and approximately 2.5 grams from the 16-year-old.

Authorities also seized more than $450 in cash during the operation.

Smith faces multiple charges including carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug.

The names, booking photos, and specific charges for the two juveniles were not released due to their ages.
