South Yarmouth motorcyclist killed in collision with pickup truck

SOUTH YARMOUTH — A 28-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon after colliding with a pickup truck at the intersection of Station Avenue and Wood Road.

Yarmouth Police responded to the scene shortly after 4 p.m., initially for reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a mailbox.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Keean Laakso, 28, of South Yarmouth, suffering from life-threatening injuries and determined a pickup truck was also involved in the collision.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene while Yarmouth Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures.

Preliminary investigation revealed the pickup truck was crossing the intersection of Wood Road when Laakso, traveling south on Station Avenue at high speed, collided with the vehicle before striking a granite mailbox post.

Laakso was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yarmouth Police Department and Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the incident.

No charges have been filed at this time.
