Northfield man found safe in Plattsburgh after welfare check

NORTHFIELD — A 66-year-old Northfield man who was the subject of a welfare check has been found safe in Plattsburgh, New York, according to Vermont State Police.

William Anderson was located by the New York State Police following an incident that remains under investigation.

Vermont State Police said they do not have further details to share about the Plattsburgh incident.

The search began when police received a request to check on Anderson at his Vine Street residence at 7:29 p.m. on May 1.

Troopers were unable to locate Anderson at his home and learned he was last seen in the Northfield area on the afternoon of April 30.

The last contact with Anderson was during a motorist assist on South Street in Bennington on May 1 at approximately 5:30 p.m., before the welfare check request was made.

Anderson had been last seen wearing a tan ski jacket and black sweatpants, and was driving a 2021 Ford Escape with Vermont registration KPT244.

Police had noted there was no indication Anderson was missing under suspicious circumstances, though there were concerns for his welfare.
